In the standard five-subject structure, students study English Core, three core academic subjects from their chosen stream, and one Skill Subject.

The six-subject structure is highly recommended. It includes English Core, four core academic subjects, and one Skill Subject. A major advantage is that the Skill Subject can replace a failed core subject in the final result, providing academic flexibility and safety.

CBSE also allows a multidisciplinary option with up to three Skill Subjects, taking the total to seven subjects. At least one Skill Subject is mandatory, while additional Skill Subjects may be chosen as extra subjects.

Core academic combinations are offered across Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams, aligned with career goals such as NEET, JEE, CA, Digital Commerce, and applied humanities.
